Observability Digest #0017: OpenTelemetry, AI, and Deep Observability

Weekly observability news: OpenTelemetry in gov tech, AI & observability, deep observability for security, events & more.

Happy Monday!

πŸ‘‹ #ObserveCrew! welcome back to another weekly dose of Observability goodness. Last week, we dove into CRN's Best Observability and DataOps Companies for 2024 and Sift's funding for its Hardware Sensor Observability Platform.

This week

Now, grab a cup of coffee β˜•, sit back, and let's explore the news for week 28 2024. πŸ“…

This Week in Observability
and Tech Resilience

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
It’s been a crazy week, and I've been keeping my eyes peeled, so here's some seriously cool you may have missed:

  • According to a recent blog post by Elastic, US federal agencies could significantly benefit taxpayers by adopting OpenTelemetry. It's exciting to see how open standards drive innovation and cost savings in the public sector, so let's see if this becomes a reality.

  • DevOps.com explores how OpenTelemetry is shaping the future of IT operations in the age of AI. Combining AI-driven Observability solutions with OpenTelemetry presents a promising approach to managing complex systems and deriving valuable insights.

  • Datadog's DASH 2024 event was a huge success, with thousands of attendees gathering to learn about the latest trends and innovations in Observability. I was particularly impressed by the breakout sessions and workshops, which covered various topics and provided hands-on learning opportunities. Grab your recap here

INNOVATION TO WATCH

  • In an article from BankinInfo, Deep Observability is crucial for gaining comprehensive visibility into your systems and data. It lets you identify and resolve issues faster, improve performance, and enhance security. I think this is a game-changer for organizations looking to level up their Observability game

  • Protecto.ai talks about encryption and the need to protect sensitive data processed by large language models (LLMs). Techniques like homomorphic encryption and secure multi-party computation offer promising solutions for preserving data privacy while enabling computations on encrypted data. I'm excited to see how these innovations will shape the future of LLM security.

MARKET NEWS

  • Everest Group and Gartner have named Atacama a leader in data Observability. Their AI-powered data management platform enables organizations to ensure high data quality and gain comprehensive insights. I'm thrilled to see Atacama's continued success and recognition in the industry.

LATEST PRODUCT UPDATES

  • Cloudera has recently launched two new solutions in its Observability suite, offering a unified source of Observability for both cloud-based and on-premises data centres. These Data-in-Motion offerings will facilitate the connection between enterprise data assets, providing streaming data and real-time insights. The new Kubernetes Operators will also help reduce operational overhead and simplify cluster setup and operations. I'm eager to see how these updates will bring value to Cloudera's customers.

  • Datadog's foundation model for time series, Toto, excels in zero-shot forecasting and outperforms the state-of-the-art on standard time series benchmark datasets. I'm impressed by Datadog's dedication to advancing the field of time series analysis. This innovative solution demonstrates the impact of AI in enhancing observability capabilities.

  • And not to be outdone this week, Microsoft has enhanced Azure Monitor with a Query Editor and support for PromQL. This streamlined workflow enables users to create and execute queries directly within their Azure Monitor workspace, improving productivity and empowering users to gain valuable insights from their data.

SECURITY AWARENESS IN OBSERVABILITY

  • Deep Observability is crucial for organizations looking to improve their cybersecurity posture. By providing comprehensive visibility into hybrid cloud infrastructures, deep Observability enables organizations to detect and respond to threats more effectively, reducing the risk of data breaches and other security incidents.

  • Encryption plays a vital role in protecting sensitive data within LLM data pipelines. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into Observability solutions, ensuring the security and privacy of data through robust encryption practices is essential for maintaining trust and compliance.
